Just like an athlete or sportsperson, a horse in work can develop areas of soreness. With our horses here at River Valley, we have found that because of the hill country we ride over, our horses are very strong in the back (arse) end, but can often get sore around the shoulders. Much of this is from inexperienced riders putting too much weight on the front of the horse riding downhill. In this video we watch a horse chiropractor realigning a number of our horses. The horses feel so good afterwards, that they will often follow him around the year with a happy glazed look on their faces. For more info – http://www.rivervalley.co.nz

cuz my mom wants me to have a sport(swim team and karate were really boring) and i went to camp and rode english saddle and told her its really good exersive(partly cuz my instructor said it was and partly cuz i just wanted to ride a horse) and the closest place for horseback riding does western saddle which i ok with(cuz im going to do it competivly) but i just need to make sure THANKS!!!
Any kind of horseback riding is good exercise. It’s definitely a sport, whatever saddle you ride in. Riding helps your balance, and works all of your muscles, especially your core muscles. I ride both, and love both english and western, so definitely go for it. Have fun!

I have a family that boards their horse at our farm and they would like to show their horse, but they’re time doesn’t always permit them to ride their horse on a reagular basis… I’d like to let them know how often others ride their horses leading up to a horse show season and how often you ride your horse during the show season in order to have both horse and rider "show ready"… any discipline. Their horse is 6 years old and has been to one horse show before.
not often

I hazve to keep my feet in front of me while i trot .i also have to not be kicking him.Any ideas for sreching.
If you use a proper seat, you will be fine. In Western, you do not sit in the saddle, you "fork" your horse. That means, you sit forward so that you are resting on the bones between your legs–yes, this hurts til you get used to it. Secondly, your legs should be straight down so that your ankle bones are even with your elbows and shoulders–the line should come straight down. Your toes should be turned in and your heels should be down. If you are not putting pressure in the stirrup then your heels will come up and your legs will come out of line and you will flop around. Then you sit the jog–not trot. In western riding, a horse jogs a bit slower than a trot. Pull the horse in a bit and slow him down–that will be easier to sit. Then it will feel more like a washing machine and less like the bone jarring that you are taking now.

please let me know if you know of anywhere, that is within a 45minute drive from auckland central that has reasonably priced horse riding lessons ie between $0-$50 for private lessons, not group lessons. Thanks
I live in hamilton so i’m not 100% sure of the layout of Auckland you could try http://www.horsetalk.co.nz/ and they might have lessons advertised?
Do you have your own horse or do you need one supplied?

Do you have any local tack stores that sell horse gear? That’s a good place to ask, as those are horse people. Darley Newman, the expert host of the Equitrekking TV show, also has an article with recommendations. http://www.equitrekking.com/Blog-Entry/24/Riding-on-a-Budget.html I got back into riding recently. It’s worth the effort!

In my story my main character goes and gets her horse from the stables and then rides her horse to a lake she is going quite fast.I need to explain her getting on to the horse, and her riding and finally when she stops. i’ve never rode a horse before so I don’t know how to describe it please help!!!
Try this: I reach the stable and reach for the reins on (horses name) neck. she(/he) saunters toward me as I try to mount her stocky body. Finally, I get on her back and she gently walks. I am tired of this painful slowness. As if understanding how I feel, (horses name) picks up speed. My hair flies back in the wonderful air as we head for the lake.
end as you wish!
good luck with ur story!
